With Ofcom making changes to 0870 numbers in October 2008 we are seeing a massive migration to either 0871 numbers or 0844 numbers. 0870 numbers will no longer generate payments for the owner of the number. Historically carriers or resellers who sold the numbers would receive a payment for routing the call. As the cost to call 0870 numbers is being reduced to fall in line with the cost of a National call so the outpayments finish. This change will impact on hundreds of resellers and thousands of customers. It is the plan for most resellers to migrate these numbers to either 0844 numbers or 0871 numbers. It is our inderstanding that 0870 numbers will (from October 2008) be charged by the carriers for receiving the call so if you are a company that has one of these numbers and you are earning money this will change to become a chargable service.
